5 out of 5 stars Buying a Home? Read this book!   September 8, 2010
Sacramento Book Review (Sacramento, CA)
This homebuyers guide proved to be a boon to most homeowners. Bringing to the table a boatload of corporate mortgage and independent broker experience, Warren readily shares her wealth of knowledge, and new homebuyers are not the only beneficiaries. The "top ten" list of things to know about refinancing was a great help to those considering refinancing their existing home, as well its sister section on whether or not to refinance at all.

The list titled "The Ten Things You Need to Know About Loans" appears to be the result of an almost zealous desire to see homebuyers avoid being stripped of money unnecessarily. Even more appreciated by this reader were the chapters on which loan fees and charges are legitimate, and what they are for. Warren also specifies which fees a homebuyer can negotiate, or even have safety removed. //Homebuyers Beware// is a must-have book for the prospective homebuyer.

This is simply a "Must Read" for ANYONE considering getting a mortgage. It's invaluable advice is written in plain English. I've read some of the other highly rated mortgage books here and this one still offers the most useful advice. Buy it. Period.

Great book with lots of useful information. I'm looking at buying a house and this along with the other book written by Carolyn Warren "Mortgage Ripoffs and Money Savers" I was able to talk intelligently and understand the paperwork I was looking at. We'll see how things go at the closing.

This is a must have for any new home buyer or someone looking to refinance.

Great Job!!! Carolyn Warren, Thanks for providing such useful information to the general public.

4 out of 5 stars Good to have around but ultimately not much meat   June 25, 2010

We're in the process of buying a house, so I thought I would try this book to see if there were new things I should be aware of that might become pitfalls. The book is concise and well written with stories and examples, but to be honest, I didn't really learn anything here that I didn't already know, or couldn't easily find on the internet. For instance, he has a chapter that goes through fees on a Good Faith Estimate and calls out some that are "bogus". It's good to know that they are bogus but he doesn't really help you with a strategy about going back to a lender or mortgage broker to get those fees waived. His advice is mostly to just find another one, which is time consuming and hard to do when you're under pressure to get a house.
This book would be great for a first time home buyer to read through because it really goes through a lot of the things you run into when you are borrowing money, but I think it would have been better if there were more advice on what to do when you run into pitfalls other than just running away.
